Community assets such as quality development, aesthetics and a strategic location have brought population growth to Davison Township for decades. As the Township’s planning consultant since 1987, Wade Trim has helped the Township manage its development process using a range of planning tools. These tools have yielded an understanding of the Township’s evolving needs and desires as well as its future vision to enhance the community for residents, business owners and visitors.
In 2001, Wade Trim facilitated the Township’s visioning program to gain insights into local development issues and identify planning topics that needed to be addressed. In response to one of the key recommendations of the VisionQuest 2001 program, a Master Plan Update was completed with recommendations for improving transportation, public spaces, design and economic development. Multiple recommendations have since been implemented.
A new Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was established in 2009 and DDA Development and Tax Increment Financing Plans were created that outlined public improvements desired within the District. A series of engineering studies were then completed to prioritize and provide an overall framework for the public improvements encompassing transportation, stormwater management, water and sanitary sewer projects. In addition, a DDA Pattern Book was completed to establish a unified design theme for the Downtown District’s public elements such as light poles and fixtures, benches, decorative pavement, landscaping and wayfinding signage.
Recreational enhancements include a connectivity study of the non-motorized system within the Township, completion of the Black Creek Trail non-motorized link between the Township and City of Davison, a dog park, design and development of the Robert Williams Nature and Historical Learning Center, and funding for the creation of Lake Callis.
