The City of Birmingham’s Quarton Lake Improvement project received a
Landscape Design Award from the Michigan Recreation and Park Association at
their annual conference in February. Wade Trim assisted the City with completion
of an environmental and recreational improvement plan for Quarton Lake to improve
water quality and lake ecology while enhancing its aesthetic value and providing
improved public access and recreational opportunities. Residents desired to use
existing resources while preserving the natural quality of the lake. Walking trails,
bike paths, viewing platforms, fishing areas, and safe ice skating access were
incorporated. Invasive species were removed and native plant and stone material
was used for shoreline erosion control, a more aesthetically pleasing and
environmentally sustainable method.
