When the City of Taylor wanted to repave Kinyon Road between Monroe and Pardee Roads,
Wade Trim engineers recommended TruPave paving fabric. Made by Owens Corning-Trumbull,
TruPave’s fiber glass and polyester mixture provides a water-resistant barrier
that delays reflective cracking, extending the life of the road. Since TruPave is also
stretch resistant, it’s easier to install than polypropylene materials that stretch
and wrinkle under high temperatures of hot-mix asphalt.
Approximately 5,500 square yards of TruPave was laid on Kinyon Road and covered
with two inches of asphalt. The TruPave fabric eliminated the need to remove the
entire road, saving the City $47,000 and reducing construction time by one month.
The TruPave-treated road will delay reflective
cracking, reducing maintenance costs and extending the life of the road.
"The decision to use TruPave on Kinyon Road provided significant savings to the
City of Taylor," says Eric Harris, Professional Engineer for Wade Trim in Taylor.
"Like many communities downriver, the City of Taylor has been affected by
the reduced state revenue sharing. Since the job was so successful, the method
will be recommended in other communities to stretch limited funds."
