Wade Trim Expands Water Resources Services to Florida Keys

Key Largo Office

Wade Trim recently opened an office in Key Largo, Florida, to provide local service to clients in the Florida Keys.

Wade Trim is working with the North Key Largo Utility Corporation to design treatment upgrades and the expansion of the 0.55 MGD Ocean Reef wastewater treatment facility. This extended aeration, secondary treatment plant requires process improvements to meet AWT effluent standards and/or high level disinfection requirements for reuse. Membrane Biological Reactor technology will be retrofitted into the existing tankage. The upgrades will allow the plant to meet 2010 Monroe County treatment standards intended to improve the Florida Keys’ near-shore marine water quality. Wade Trim is also supporting the North Key Largo Utility Corporation in several other tasks including electrical condition assessments of their facilities.

Wade Trim has also been selected by the Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority (FKAA) to be one of their design consultants to help implement their Capital Improvement Program for water and wastewater facilities. This continuing contract involves planning, design, permitting, bid phase, and construction and certification phase services. FKAA has 27 Capital Improvement projects that could potentially require these services, including a 2.0 MGD seawater reverse osmosis WTP upgrade design, deep injection and raw water supply well construction, pump station improvements, and the design and construction of wastewater treatment plants, concentrate disposals, utility systems, wastewater transmission systems, seawall repair and administration buildings. The Monroe County Sanitary Wastewater Master Plan, completed in June 2000, is the driving force behind many of FKAA’s projects.

The Key Largo Wastewater Treatment District (KLWTD) selected Wade Trim as one of their consultants to provide design services for the KLWTD’s future wastewater collection system expansions. Services include the design of wastewater collection and transmission system components, obtaining appropriate permitting through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and other agencies, and preparing bid solicitation and construction contract documents. Several wastewater collection basins in the KLWTD service area are involved in this project. These basins are identified in the Monroe County Sanitary Wastewater Master Plan and will be further defined in the Key Largo Wastewater Treatment District Facilities Plan. The Facilities Plan will define the service area boundaries for each basin and recommend the type of collection system to be used.
