City of Milan Reduces Costs of Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants

Milan Water Treatment Plant

Facing an operating budget shortfall, the City of Milan hired Wade Trim Operations Services to provide operation, maintenance and management of the City’s water and wastewater treatment plants. We also oversee ten sewage lift stations and two storm water lift stations. Wade Trim provides all personnel. We also provide emergency response to water and wastewater operational problems, assist with equipment warranties, prepare monthly operating reports and propose capital improvement projects to the City.

Key to controlling the costs of operating the City’s water and wastewater treatment plants, is the implementation of an Asset Management Program and Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). The Asset Management Plan uses an Enterprise Asset Management approach that recognizes that maintenance dollars are limited or scarce. This approach develops priorities for maintenance and capital replacement. Good recordkeeping is also important for controlling costs at the plants. The CMMS will be used to track labor and materials costs for maintenance activities, schedule work, and provide detailed instructions to operating personnel.
