The Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber has recognized Wade Trim with a Greening Downriver Award for a Large Business. Downriver is
the unofficial name for a collection of 18 suburban cities and townships in Wayne County, Michigan, south of
Detroit along the western shore of the Detroit River. Wade Trim has been helping Downriver communities address
infrastructure and environmental issues for more than 80 years. Projects have focused on sewer systems, drinking
water systems, roadways and bridges, parks and trails, community planning and land development.
As a member firm of the U.S. Green Building Council, Wade Trim strives to incorporate sustainable design concepts
and green building practices into a wide variety of facilities and project sites. Our engineers, landscape architects
and planners help shape projects that respect the natural environment and are an added amenity within their
community. The Downriver Linked Greenways Initiative (DLGI) Master Plan
and Update is a recent Downriver area project. The Downriver Community Conference, through the DLGI, completed a non-motorized system survey and
analysis plan as well as conceptual system designs for the Downriver communities. The DLGI, a group of more than
20 communities, agencies and entities, has been successful and anticipates continuing to make grant applications to
implement plan recommendations and create a trail system consistent with the Southeast Michigan Greenways Initiative.
Wade Trim completed the original Master Plan in 2000, and updates in 2008 to reflect changes in regional trail
efforts and funding resources.
In addition, Wade Trim designed the Woodruff Road Non-motorized Trail in Brownstown Township, a 1.5-mile trail
segment that is part of the DLGI system. Wade Trim also provided assistance in the form of fundraising dinner
invitations, brochures and signage for the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance, a non-profit organization based
in Grosse Ile that is dedicated to supporting the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge.
One of the downriver communities that we have worked with the longest, the City of Taylor, recently featured an article about the Southern Wayne County Regional Chamber's awards that also recognized a Taylor resident.
