Robert C. Wade, PE, PS, (1933-2002) helped shape Wade Trim into a
nationally recognized engineering firm. As past Chief Executive Officer and Chairman
of the Board, his dedication was constant from the day
he and Don Trim purchased the small engineering firm he had worked with
since college, until his retirement in spring 2002. He spearheaded Wade Trim’s
strategic planning and implemented programs to grow and develop the company.
Bob ventured into areas outside his technical engineering background,
nurturing the human resource, administrative and information system groups
within the company.
Bob was a leader in the engineering profession. He was very active in the American
Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) serving as president and member
of the Board of Directors of the Michigan chapter, and as Vice President,
National Director and Peer Reviewer on the national level. He served on
the state and national Engineering Excellence Committees for ACEC for
nearly ten years. Bob also served on the Wayne County Wetlands Task Force
and the Governor's Task Force to Reform the Design Professional Registration
and Licensing Act.
Eternally curious about how things work and finding better ways to do things, learning
was ingrained in Bob. Storytelling was an art he mastered and skillfully
used to get others to look at situations from a different perspective.
He shared his knowledge and experience as a mentor to many. He remained
active in large projects and provided insights to engineering and surveying
challenges. He served on the Canton Planning Commission sharing his expertise
with the community where he lived.
Bob genuinely cared for the people he worked with and could always find common ground
with employees. His laughter brightened our days and his empathy warmed
our hearts. His integrity helped define Wade Trim. His integrity will
stay with us as we continue to build the company he cared for so deeply.
