Dunedin Updates Downtown Master Plan

A community workshop was held to gather public input on elements to preserve, change, and create in downtown Dunedin.

Parking availability and accessibility has been identified as a key concern.

The City is exploring opportunities to expand the marina/waterfront area and improve its connectivity with downtown.

After 20 years of successful implementation of their original Master Plan, Dunedin, FL, has gained the recognition of being one of “America’s Most Walkable Cities” (Run The Planet) and one of the “Best Places to Live” (Money Magazine). The City is ready to take their Downtown area to the next level by making better use of assets such as the marina/waterfront, the Pinellas Trail, and ongoing redevelopment projects, while maintaining Dunedin’s unique character and sense of place.

Wade Trim is assisting with the City’s Downtown Master Plan update by coordinating an intensive community outreach program to identify new challenges and opportunities, create a vision, develop future strategies and outline key actions and projects to develop a capital improvements program. Community participation has been high throughout the process, an important variable to ensure successful implementation. Some strategies identified through the process by Wade Trim and stakeholders are the marina/waterfront redevelopment; the establishment of form-based codes and pattern books for the area; a green strategy, and a marketing strategy. The City Council is scheduled to review and approve the Downtown Master Plan in September 2009.
