Greenways Initiative (DLGI) complete a non-motorized system survey, analysis plan
and conceptual system designs for the Downriver communities in southeast Michigan. The DLGI is seeking
to create a trail system that is consistent with the Southeast Michigan Greenways
Initiative and the American Heritage River Greenways vision. |

Quarton Lake Improvements
The City of Birmingham completed an environmental and recreational improvement plan
for Quarton Lake to improve water quality and lake ecology while enhancing its aesthetic
value and providing improved public access and recreational opportunities. Residents
wanted to use existing resources while preserving the natural quality of the lake. Walking
trails, bike paths, designated fishing areas, and safe ice skating access were discussed.
Environmental improvements, including dredging were made. Invasive species were removed and
on-site erosion will be maintained. Shoreline erosion control was provided using native plant
and stone material. This project received the Michigan Recreation and Park Association’s 2005
Landscape Design Award.

Macomb County Trailways Master Plan
Wade Trim assisted in the development of the Macomb County Trailways Master Plan which
will ultimately yield a cohesive trail system, developed through a coordinated effort that
connects people to each other and to schools, parks, rivers, public buildings, and historic
and cultural resources in the region. Implementation must be preceded by the requisite planning
to bring together the varied greenways projects and ideas studied and discussed. Through an
interactive planning process, Wade Trim facilitated the development of a plan that coalesces
individual community plans into a single plan for Macomb County. The Plan received the 2005
Outstanding Planning Project Award from the Michigan Association of Planning. Wade Trim is
currently working with the Trail Commission and County to design Phases II and III of the
23.5-mile Macomb Orchard Trail.

Sarasota County Parks and Recreation Master Plan
Wade Trim is developing a 20-year Parks and Recreation Master Plan for Sarasota County,
Florida. Sarasota’s park system is comprised of over 140 parks located
throughout the County. In addition, the County operates and maintains parks and
recreation facilities within the cities located in Sarasota County. The Master
Plan will be developed with extensive public input and participation through the
use of a Steering Committee, 12 public workshops, and mail and telephone
surveys. The project also includes a comprehensive review of existing and potential
funding opportunities available to support parks and recreation in the County.
