Huron Regional Water Authority Water System Improvements   Huron Regional Water Authority Water System Improvements
Long-standing arsenic problems are no longer an issue since the Huron Regional Water Authority (HRWA), formed by the City of Bad Axe and Village of Port Austin, constructed a $13-million regional water supply system that uses surface water to serve area residents. The award-winning system featured the first full production US Filter CMF-L microfiltration plant in Michigan, a 17-mile transmission main and booster stations. An innovative start-up and testing approach was developed using raw water that expedited MDEQ’s approval process and enabled HRWA to begin generating revenue immediately after plant start-up. With a capacity of 1.90 MGD, the plant is expandable to 3.80 MGD. Wade Trim provided evaluation, design and construction administration services and continues to provide full contract operations for the plant.
Garden City Water Main Valves Replacement   Garden City Water Main Valves Replacement
Six inoperable valves along a 16-inch main transmission line in the City of Garden City, MI, had complicated water main repairs for years requiring complete shut down of water service to two or three blocks at a time. Concerns were also growing that a break in the line would severely impact water supply. To restore the full operability of their water system and enable DPW crews to perform repairs more efficiently, the six valves were replaced using line stop repair. By isolating repair work with temporary plugs, installed just upstream and downstream of the broken valve, construction impacts on residents were minimized. Wade Trim assisted the City with prequalifying contractors, provided full construction administration services, and worked with the line stop manufacturer to prepare contract documents.
I-275 Links Water Main Relocation   I-275 Links Water Main Relocation
The City of Tampa Water Department, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation’s widening of Interstate 275 through central Tampa, removed and relocated 13 miles of water main. Water mains up to 18 inches in diameter were removed within the expanded right-of-ways and new mains from 6 to 30 inches in diameter were installed in adjacent neighborhoods to re-establish looping, and maintain flows, pressures and fire protection. Wade Trim provided engineering, surveying, subsurface utility engineering, construction management and inspection services for Links 2 and 3 of the water main relocation to support the overall widening project.
Telegraph Road Water Main Replacement   Telegraph Road Water Main Replacement
The City of Taylor seized the opportunity to improve the reliability of their water system when the Michigan Department of Transportation started designing the reconstruction of 4.5 miles of Telegraph Road through the City. Wade Trim assisted the City in piggybacking onto the road improvements to replace their primary transmission main under the same construction contract. Eight miles of 12-inch water main were designed and integrated with the roadway design and nearly 260 easements acquired. The new main was placed in service without the cost of roadway excavation and additional inconveniences to local businesses and residents.
