Oakland County Parks and Recreation Improvements
As part of a 5-Year Parks and Recreation Master Plan for Oakland County, MI, Wade Trim provided landscape-focused redesign for two community parks to improve amenities, play spaces, accessibility, parking capacity, and stormwater management. Updates to aging infrastructure at the 17-acre Oak Park Woods include a nature-themed playground, new restrooms, trails, and restoration of natural features. At 163 acres, Red Oaks Park is a community recreation hub. Park amenities were expanded with climbing structures, a rolling playscape, a bridge crossing, and sledding hill improvements with accessible paths, slides, and a sloping climbing wall.
Riverside Park Improvements
Redevelopment of Riverside Park helped revitalize Detroit’s Riverfront with a functional, attractive, and sustainable recreational space for residents and visitors. Wade Trim designed hardscape finishes, parking, sidewalks, site furniture, ADA access, and stormwater drainage and flood control with park users in mind. Working within a former industrial brownfield site, the redevelopment and construction had to address contaminated soils to protect park users. Pavements, landscaping, and drainage solutions were selected for durability and long-term maintenance, creating a park that is both enjoyable and resilient.
Chevy Commons Redevelopment
As one of the three major pieces to restore Flint’s riverfront, Wade Trim transformed the former 60-acre Chevrolet manufacturing plant into a community destination spot. The plan provided the City and stakeholders with a blueprint for converting the brownfield zone into a green space. Redeveloped in five phases, the park-like area features open grasslands, woodlands, and wetlands interlaced with trails that link to surrounding institutions, neighborhoods, and regional trails. The team successfully preserved the history and character of the space, while engaging and integrating the community throughout the process.
