Rapid population growth in Florida has increased regional development pressures in the state’s most popular areas, such as the Orlando Metro area and West Orange County. These challenges are particularly difficult for smaller towns to face due to staffing shortages and budget constraints. To bolster their resources, the Central Florida Towns of Windermere and Oakland work with Wade Trim planners to protect community character and mitigate impacts of population growth in surrounding areas. As integral members of both Towns’ staffs, our planners provide day-to-day planning and zoning services to help the communities stay up to date on new legislation and tackle development-related issues.

Working with Windermere as Town Planner since 2014, Wade Trim has assisted in updating the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, crafting and enforcing land development codes, and serving as the primary planning and zoning contact for residents, property owners, and businesses. We confirm development activity adheres to local design standards and protect numerous local lakes’ shorelines and water quality by coordinating with Orange County Environmental Protection, Orange County Health Department, and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

As Town Planner for Oakland since 2022, Wade Trim reviews building permits and subdivision and commercial site plans for compliance with the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code. Oakland receives a high amount of developer interest due to its proximity to major roadways, SR-50 and the Florida Turnpike, and availability of vacant parcels. We assist the Town in working with potential developers to confirm development plans are consistent and complimentary to Oakland’s character. Our work also extends to the analysis, based on State law, of potential annexation and connection to Town utilities for unincorporated areas along busy roadways.
