Designing infrastructure that conveys and stores water relies on sound hydraulic calculations to determine where the flow goes, how deep it is, and how fast it’s moving for safe and efficient operations. From pipes and channels to weirs, orifices, and watersheds, engineers routinely apply hydraulic equations to size components and verify performance. Developed by Wade Trim engineers, the Hydraulic ToolKit app allows users to perform everyday hydraulic calculations anytime, anywhere.

While software and spreadsheets are typically used to perform hydraulic calculations, the process often takes place using a computer in the office. This free app is a simple and portable tool to make quick calculations more convenient. Hydraulic coefficients required to perform the calculations can also be referenced. Common uses include verifying a basic hydraulic understanding during a meeting for a school or work project, or checking performance in the field during site observation or startup.

Seven hydraulic formulas can be calculated using the imperial or metric system:

  • Rational Formula – Calculate peak runoff rates for an area.
  • Rectangular Weir Formula – Calculate rate of flow over a rectangular weir.
  • Circular Orifice Flow – Calculate rate of flow through a circular opening.
  • Full Circular Pipe Flow – Calculate rate of flow through a circular pipe flowing full.
  • Velocity in a Circular Pipe – Calculate velocity of flow through a circular pipe flowing full.
  • Trapezoidal Channel – Calculate rate of flow through a trapezoidal open channel.
  • Rectangular Conduit Full Flow – Calculate rate of flow through a rectangular channel flowing full.

The Wade Trim Hydraulic ToolKit app is available in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. The app is intended for quick and basic calculation checks that do not replace detailed design analyses.
