Cory Smith, PS, PE, was appointed by Governor Gretchen Whitmer to 4-year terms on both the Michigan Board of Professional Surveyors and Michigan Board of Professional Engineers. Each board licenses and regulates its professional practice and works with the state’s Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs to oversee the practice of licensed surveyors and engineers. Cory’s simultaneous and consecutive service on both boards will help advance the professions and maintain technical, regulatory, and ethical standards for Michigan’s built environment.
As Wade Trim’s Lead Transportation Survey Project Manager, Cory promotes strong coordination between field data collection and downstream design processes to optimize project outcomes, particularly for complex transportation and utility corridor projects. He has 14 years of combined surveying and engineering experience and previously served as a Michigan Department of Transportation Southwest Region Surveyor. Cory leads multidisciplinary teams, streamlines communication between survey and engineering staff, and provides comprehensive oversight from initial data collection through final design.
Cory holds an MS in Civil Engineering from Purdue University and a BS in Surveying Engineering from Ferris State University where he has also taught as an Adjunct Professor of Surveying Engineering.
